Project Overview

The main objective of this project is to reduce the energy lost by car during braking. Regular car brakes lose a lot of energy especially by heat generated by friction between the brake and and the rotor. Members of this group will design a braking prototype that converts some of the kinetic energy generated  when the car is moving to rotational energy and also slow down the car. The group will use a bike wheel and a rod to simulate a car wheel and its axle. A generator will also be used to convert the kinetic energy to electrical energy which is more useful. Major tasks in the project include generator testing so that the appropriate generator is chosen. Other tasks include development of a circuit and also mounting the wheel, axle and generator appropriately. At the end the group hopes to have a final delivery that  converts kinetic energy to electrical and slows down the wheel and axle.
